Germany triumphiord against Iran: national volleyball team on course for victory!

The German national volleyball team is once again showing its strong side in the Nations League. On June 28, 2025, the players earned a valuable 3-1 win against Iran in Belgrade. With this success they consolidated their position in the tournament and created a good atmosphere in the team. The match kept the spectators on their toes with scores of 25:22, 23:25, 26:24 and 25:22, while national coach Michal Winiarski's boys competed with a clear plan.

For Germany it was the third win in the seventh game of the tournament - not exactly bad! Particularly noteworthy is the impressive performance of diagonal attacker Filip John, who scored a whopping 22 attack points. This strong team performance not only brought in the points, but also improved the chances of reaching the knockout round of the Nations League, which is of great importance for the players.

The starting position and the path to the World Cup

Germany is currently in eleventh place in the Nations League. After a narrow win against the Netherlands on Thursday, hope for a strong final round is back. After the start of phase two, which began with a defeat against Cuba (1:3), the team was now more motivated than ever and plans to go into the next games with a tailwind. Serbia is the next opponent on Sunday - the game can be seen on ZDF live stream at 8 p.m.

The Nations League itself, in which the best 18 men's and women's national teams gather, not only serves as a competition, but is also preparation for the upcoming World Cup, which begins on September 12th in the Philippines. The focus is clearly on a medal, which underlines the team's ambitions. Another interesting aspect is that the team under Winiarski is increasingly relying on young talent to give them international competition experience. Even if the experienced veteran Georg Grozer, 40 years old, was unable to take part in the tournament in order to regenerate after the club season, the prospects are given by bringing in young players.

The popularity of volleyball is on the rise

The Nations League has now developed into an important event - that wasn't always the case. It used to be more of an insider tip for insiders, but now the VNL is also followed by the general public. Where school gymnasiums once served as venues, large arenas now fill the rows of spectators. Thanks to the increased popularity, every game is televised, which has greatly increased the reach and interest in volleyball.

In the meantime, it remains exciting to see how the German team will develop further. Stay tuned – there are more exciting encounters ahead and our team has the potential to shine in the next game too.
