Germany and USA: New survey shows unexpected friendship!
In recent years, the relationship between Germany and the USA has undergone remarkable change. After turbulent times associated with Donald Trump's presidency, we are now experiencing a return to positive coexistence. A recent survey shows that 71% of Germans rate relations with the USA as good or very good - a sharp increase compared to just 18% in the previous year. This reports Mirror.
Along with this improvement in the transatlantic relationship, trust in the USA as a partner has increased. Around 44% of German citizens see the USA as Germany's most important partner, followed immediately by France at 27%. This data comes from a Körber Foundation survey conducted by Kantar Public.
The set of values
Germany's position within NATO has also promoted these positive developments. For over 70 years, the security interests of Europe and North America have been inextricably linked. The Foreign Office emphasizes that relationships are based on shared values and historical experiences. Peace, stability and democracy connect the countries across the Atlantic.
An important aspect of this partnership is close cultural, social and political communication. Exchange programs for schoolchildren, students and scientists have been promoting understanding and cooperation since the 1950s and are a valuable part of transatlantic relations. Germany, together with its partners, is committed to a rules-based multilateral order.
The challenges of the present
Despite the optimistic assessments, there are challenges to be overcome. According to 31% of respondents, Afghanistan remains one of the biggest challenges for German foreign policy, while 55% view China's growing influence negatively. 67% of Germans emphasize that close relations with the USA are more important than with China.
Given these geopolitical dynamics, it is clear that transatlantic cooperation not only has historical significance, but is also crucial for future global stability. The next federal government faces the challenge of continually strengthening these relationships while at the same time focusing on international security and environmental issues.
Finally, the current mood in Germany shows that the American ex-boyfriend is very popular again. People are ready to take new paths with their partner across the ocean and renew old bonds. With a common goal in mind, the transatlantic relationship is sure to play an important role in the coming years. The Körber Foundation also confirms this with its surveys, which show broad support for an active foreign policy.
