The German U21 juniors fought their way to the semi-finals of the European Championship with an impressive performance. On June 23, 2025, coach Antonio Di Salvo's team met the Italians in Dunajska Streda and stole their ticket to the next round with a 3-2 win after extra time. With this success, Germany is now aiming for its fourth European Championship title, following titles in 2009, 2017 and 2021.
However, the game started anything but promising for the German hobbyists. In the 58th minute, Luca Koleosho gave Squadra Azzurra the lead. But the deficit didn't seem to faze the team. Nick Woltemade, who had previously scored four goals and was the tournament's top scorer, equalized in the 68th minute. Nelson Weiper raised the mood even further when he made it 2-1 for Germany in the 87th minute.
An exciting finale
Extra time then turned into German dominance. The players had the right instinct and pushed for victory. Finally, Merlin Röhl scored the decisive goal in the 117th minute and secured their place in the semi-finals.
