Life -threatening game: girls on rail tracks provide chaos!

The federal police urgently warns of the dangers that run out of train systems for playing children. On a Wednesday evening, residents between Lübeck and Ueckermünde noticed that a group of children played in the track bed at Lalendorf station (Rostock district). They then informed the police, who immediately initiated a route. This measure meant that two trains were delayed by more than half an hour and another train was diverted. At the train station, the federal police finally found three minor girls who were outside the track area and were handed over to their legal guardians after instruction. The authorities emphasize that trains are not only quickly, but also quiet, which increases the risk of accidents.

However, the dangers due to careless actions near train systems are not limited to this incident. On the Pentecost weekend there were several critical situations in North Rhine-Westphalia. On Friday, June 6th, the train driver of a freight train and a passenger train in Bielefeld and Paderborn had to initiate emergency braking because children and young people crossed the tracks. While the children fled in Bielefeld, it was a group of ten young people in Paderborn Central Station, which the federal police noticed after they were verbally attacked by an unknown man by bike. Investigations with regard to a dangerous intervention in rail traffic were initiated, but the search for the man remained unsuccessful.

dangers and prevention measures

Deutsche Bahn makes it clear that entering rail systems is life -threatening. There are around 5,700 train stations on its 33,300 kilometer route network, and despite increased safety precautions and educational measures, there are always dangerous behaviors. These include selfies on the tracks, climbing to parked trains or shortening via rails. To prevent such accidents, the Deutsche Bahn and the federal police work on various educational projects, which in particular appeal to children and young people. This also includes new prevention teams that provide information on site.

The reconnaissance campaigns such as "We want you to get there" address the risks and encourage them to use railways. While a modernly furnished ICE drives through train stations at a speed of up to 160 km/h, the quiet engines increase the risk of being warned in time. Trains need up to 1,000 meters for full braking, which illustrates how important it is to stay away from train systems. For the unauthorized entry of rail systems, fines of up to 5,000 euros can be imposed; In severe cases there are even prison terms of up to 10 years.

Deutsche Bahn has also set up safety precautions such as signs, earth walls, noise barriers and fences. Nevertheless, there is a challenge to fully secure the entire route network due to the size and accessibility. The recent incidents once again illustrate how crucial it is to educate children and adolescents about the dangers of rail systems and to sensitize them to their own behavior. In a community effort, the public must be pointed out that secure handling of rail systems has a top priority.
