Frankfurt, Deutschland - The construction of the first two sections of the northern Mainian S-Bahn between Frankfurt and Hanau will start this year. The project is a significant step to improve local transport in the Rhine-Main region. According to Wirtschaft Hessen , the state of Hesse receives an extensive financial support of almost 550 million euros. The funding is carried out by the federal and state governments on the basis of the municipal Financing Act, whereby a realization and financing contract was signed in April 2025 between the state, the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund and Deutsche Bahn.
The project includes the addition of the existing S-Bahn route by two tracks, which are to be connected directly to the City tunnel of the S-Bahn in Frankfurt. The aim is to create transfer -free connections to downtown Frankfurt and to shorten the travel times for up to 10 minutes. This project is part of the rail expansion projects in the Frankfurt area, which has recently been identified in response to one of the largest bottlenecks in the German rail network.

Current progress in other projects
In parallel to the work on the northern Main S-Bahn, Deutsche Bahn also advanced the expansion of the route between Frankfurt Stadion and Frankfurt Central Station in the Niederrad district. Reports Show that new course between the S- and Fernbahn tracks have been installed, which enables regional and long-distance trains to drive a more flexible drive towards Frankfurt Central Station. The expansion aims to relieve the traffic node Frankfurt and avoid bottlenecks and delays.In addition, two more tracks for long -distance transport will be built between Frankfurt Stadium and the main train station by 2030.
