Enigmatic candle ensures biddle duel at Bares for Rares!

Hamburg, Deutschland - On June 10, 2025, the popular ZDF program "Bares for Rares" attracted captivating objects and unforeseen results. Particularly noteworthy is an oversized candle presented on May 14th. This artistically designed piece immediately caught the attention of dealers and spectators. Moderator Horst Lichter described the candle as unique and noticed the impressive design that makes it a true work of art.

The candle that is much too big for a birthday cake is classified as a piece of industrial history. Experts identified them as a product between 1871 and 1889, which is documented by the four Prussian coat of arms. Friederike Werner, an expert in the show, assessed the candle as a rare testimony of this era. The owner, Katrin, originally expected a sales price of 3,000 euros, but the expert estimate was significantly lower at just 500 euros.

bidden duel and surprising sale

In the dealer room, an exciting bidding duel developed, since the object was considered extraordinary by those present. Dealer Schmitz-Avila took the first step and offered 1,500 euros. Ultimately, however, David Suppes secured the demand with a purchase price of 2,000 euros. This shows once again how such extraordinary pieces are valued and traded in the show.

Another remarkable piece that was presented in a special edition of "Bares for Rares" on October 23, 2024 is a drawing on cardboard, created by the Japanese artist Ayako Rokkaku. Carolin from Frankfurt wanted to sell the drawing because she was originally acquired with the idea that her daughter would look like this. In fact, to the delight of the parents, her daughter has black hair and brown eyes.

The couple Carolin and Kostja hoped to finance a trip to the USA by selling the drawing. They wished 15,000 euros, while expert Bianca Berding estimated the value between 15,000 and 18,000 euros. The dealers were initially at a loss because they had never been offered a work of Rokkaku. Julian Schmitz-Avila offered 3,500 euros, but finally David Suppes significantly exceeded the expert's estimate. Carolin and Kostja were surprised and pleased with this offer.
