Heat alarm in Lower Saxony: Social Association demands quick action!

Hannover, Deutschland - The Social Association of Germany (SOVD) urgently raises the voice for heat protection in Lower Saxony. On the occasion of today's heat action day, which takes place at 11:30 a.m. in the Hannoversche Herrenhäuser Garden, SOVD head of state Dirk Swinke expresses his lack of understanding of the slow processing of the important topic in view of the progressive climate change. "Heat note can be avoided through determined action," emphasizes Swinke and refers to the alarming situation in many communities in the state.

So far, only a few municipalities in Lower Saxony have developed a comprehensive heat plan. Even if such plans exist, their measures are often not implemented. The SOVD therefore calls for heat protection as a mandatory task for the municipalities and requires additional financial and personnel support.

The health risks that are based on heat periods are particularly alarming for vulnerable groups. According to the Robert Koch-Institut (RKI), older people, pregnant women and people with chronic previous illnesses are particularly affected. The possibility of an increase in heat -related diseases and even deaths is expected in the course of climate change in the next few decades.

Effective and preventive heat protection is therefore essential. Good monitoring is crucial here. The RKI has been carrying out evaluations to the heat -related brazenity for years and is in exchange with various ministries, authorities and relevant actors to develop effective measures.
