Heat wave hits: Germany expects record temperatures over 38 degrees!
The sun shines over Germany and gives us hot days. Today, August 11, 2025, temperatures will rise to a scorching 38 degrees, especially in the southern regions. A real summer highlight! The German Weather Service (DWD) has announced rather calm weather, which will soon be replaced by showers and thunderstorms. A good mood is the order of the day, even if we have to prepare for cooler weather, because from Thursday it will be wet again in the north, while the south can still enjoy high temperatures, it is reported daily news.
We can expect lots of sunshine in the next few days, especially in the southern half. But from Tuesday afternoon the heat will move further north. The DWD recommends only daring to ventilate once, especially on Tuesday mornings, because the minimum temperatures remain below 15 degrees. This means that highs of between 30 and 36 degrees are on the agenda for Tuesday afternoon, which particularly affects the Upper Rhine Graben. Anyone staying in northern Germany has to be prepared for cooler nights, where temperatures can drop to 13 degrees.
The weather forecast for the coming days
Another heat wave is expected on Wednesday, when temperatures climb between 31 and 38 degrees. The Baden-Württemberg area in particular is where you can expect the most sunshine, while in the mountainous areas in the south the odd shower may not be ruled out. In general, you should keep an eye on the nights - a tropical night is predicted on Thursday night, with temperatures not expected to fall below 20 degrees. This means it is becoming increasingly humid, making the heat stressful.
However, the thunderstorms will return on Thursday. From the afternoon we can expect heavy showers and heavy rain, especially in parts of northern Baden. The north will initially be spared. Nevertheless, the weekend brings a cooling down. A fresh northwesterly wind will bring temperatures in the north down to a pleasant 23 degrees, while on Sunday you can stay at 28 to 29 degrees in the south.
Climate change in focus
But these summer days are not only fun, they also cast shadows on a fundamental problem: climate change. According to that Federal Environment Agency There are clear indicators of the long-term changes caused by climate change that influence our weather patterns. We are experiencing extreme weather events more and more frequently, be it storms, droughts or the now classic hot summers. The current hot temperatures could therefore be part of a larger pattern that affects us all and is not just a short-term joy.
The federal government's monitoring report provides annual information about the effects of climate change, with over 50 federal authorities and scientific institutions collaborating. The need for action is becoming increasingly clear - especially when it comes to issues such as heat stress and lack of water, which have a direct impact on our environment and our way of life.
No matter how our weather develops, the summer high will keep the mood upbeat, while at the same time we should keep an eye on the long-term effects. So stay cool and enjoy what summer has to offer, but don't forget to take care of the environment too!
