International students start Fubis Summer University in Berlin!

On June 10, 2025, a new summer date began at the international summer and winter university of the Free University of Berlin (Fubis), which started on Pentecost Sunday. A total of 134 students from 25 countries have registered, including most of the USA, China, Hong Kong and Singapore. The program extends over six weeks and ends on July 19th.

The Fubis program offers a fascinating combination of English-language specialist courses and German-language courses, with the credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) being awarded. The seminars cover a variety of topics, including the history of Germany in National Socialism, European art history, protest movements in Europe as well as international negotiations and mediation. A special feature of the program is the consideration of Berlin as a cultural and historical place that is integrated into the teaching content.

participants have the option of participating in excursions as part of the lesson. This includes visits to important memorials and museums as well as stimulating encounters in messages. In addition to the academic offer, Fubis also enables a variety of extracurricular activities such as:

The promotion of international exchange is supported by ten scholarships, which are provided by the Ernst-Reuter-Gesellschaft e.V. for students from Singapore and Hong Kong.

Fubis was founded in 1998 as a summer university and was expanded to include a winter university in 2007. Every year, the program attracts almost 600 students from 40 nations. In 2018, Fubis received the seal of quality of the US Quality Impovement Program (Quip) and integrated the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) into its course program. The start time of the new summer term marks an important chapter for the students who can not only gain academic qualifications here, but also intercultural experiences.
