Julia Rick conquers gold in cable wakeboarding at the World Games 2025!
History is currently being written in Chengdu, China - the World Games 2025 are enjoying great popularity and the German team is impressively showing what it is capable of. Particularly in the spotlight is Julia Rick, who has achieved future legend status in cable wakeboarding.
The 32-year-old athlete from Brühl took the gold medal today with a score of 86.40, a respectable lead of 8 points over the Italian Vanessa Tittarelli, who took second place. The Dutch athlete Sanne Meijer came third with 73.80 points. Team Germany reports that Julia Rick maintains an impressive record as a 13-time world champion and secured the first gold medal for this sporting event since it was last held in Duisburg in 2005.
High tension despite the break in the rain
But the competition was anything but easy. An unexpected downpour interrupted the event, leaving athletes feeling nervous and cold as they waited for their first run. “We were all waiting for it, but I kept my routine,” said Julia Rick, who previously played soccer in the second division.
She laid her foundation for wakeboarding at the age of 17 and has since reached the highest heights of the sport. “I always dreamed of moments like this,” she said after her success. Her coach Adrian Abeck, who has accompanied her for over 15 years, was extremely proud of his protégé's performance.
A strong team
However, the German results were not just limited to Julia Rick. Max Milde and Florian Weiherer also impressed in the cable wakeboard and secured silver and bronze. Max Milde had to give up the lead without further ado, but held on to second place. The two best friends contribute to the strong team spirit in Germany and show that we can achieve more together.
Germany is represented at these World Games with a total of 214 athletes in 25 sports. Sports show highlights that over 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected. An exciting spectacle for sports fans from all over the world.
A look into the future
Julia Rick has big plans. “I really hope that cable wakeboarding will be included in the Olympic program for 2032,” she explains and also has her sights set on the 2029 World Games in Karlsruhe, provided her fitness remains at a high level. She would also like to express her passion for the sport through coaching after her active career in order to promote the next generation of wakeboarders.
For Julia Rick and her team, this was a day where dreams came true. A day that underlines the importance of the World Games not only for the athletes, but also for the future of cable wakeboarding. It remains exciting: How will the sport develop further and which new talents will we see in the coming years? At least one thing is certain: the wave of success is far from over. The World Games are in full swing and show what is possible.
