Kassel Art Prize 2025: Artists from the region honored!
Kassel, Deutschland - The Kassel Art Prize 2025, which of Dr. Wolfgang Zippel Foundation is awarded, honored outstanding artists in the region. This year the award winners were announced in the area of intermedial art: Thea Josepha Konatsu, graduate of the new media at the Kassel Art University, and Elko Braas, who works as an artistic employee at the same university. Each of the two winners receives prize money of 6,000 euros.
The decision on the awards was made on the proposal of the Foundation Council by the magistrate of the city of Kassel. In addition to the main prize, the Doris Krininger Prize, which goes to the artist couple Maja Work and Eric Pries, is also awarded. This prize has been awarded for six years and supports Kassel artists from the age of 35 regardless of their discipline.

The award ceremony and the presentation of the artistic work will take place on June 25, 2025 in the Kassel Kunstverein. The exhibition, which shows the works of the award winners, opened on June 26, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. until June 30, 2025. Entry to the exhibition is free so that a wide audience can experience the artistic work.
In addition, Dr. Wolfgang Zippel Foundation seven cultural projects in Kassel and has also bought five contemporary works of art for the Kassel Artothek. The projects that are supported with a total of 10,000 euros include a digital dance project by Agnetha Jaunich as well as various exhibitions and artistic programs.

Elko Braas, born in 1992, combines abstract ideas with the physical world in his work and experimented with digital and analog systems. The graduate of the Kassel art college, where he was a master student with Florian Slotawa, is currently dealing with research topics about Carl Friedrich Gauss. Thea Josepha Konatsu, born in 1995, addresses cultural characteristics and their influence on history and memory in her work. She is currently working on a project via Qingdao, China.
The artist couple and praise critically deals with architectural history in his work and questions the Euro -American architectural discourse. Her latest publication is entitled "We are Millenium Stars" and shows her preference for interdisciplinary approaches in art.
In addition to the awards for the artists, there are also new funding for the area of contemporary visual arts from the funding program of the Kunstfonds Foundation. In 2022, 765,800 euros were awarded for projects in Germany, of which 59 artists, art associations, museums and galleries were able to benefit, with the focus on publications and artist catalogs. This initiative shows the growing support for the art scene and the variety of projects submitted.
