Hanse Sail Rostock: over 110 traditional sailors and 500,000 visitors awaited!
The waves of the Baltic Sea bring a special event to the Rostock harbor these days: the Hanse Sail is in the starting blocks. From August 7th to 10th, over 110 traditional sailors in the Hanseatic city are expected to celebrate the largest Maritime Volksfest Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. As Welt have already registered more than 90 ships from small to large size, including fascinating gallery, Gaffle saver, cutter and cogs. The foam crowns of the waves are not less. In the previous year, almost 500,000 people have been poured into this maritime spectacle in the previous year!
The largest traditional ship, the "Gulden Leeuw", measures a proud 69.90 meters, while the smallest, the "The Ruyghenhill", offers a special sight with a length of 18 meters. Another highlight is the frigate "North Rhine-Westphalia", which holds the length record with a length of 149.50 meters. For the first time, the flagship "Belem", a 129 -year -old ship, will also be there in Hanse Sail. Special sailing opportunities are particularly available on Thursday and Sunday, while the places are quickly out of print on Friday and Saturday.
an additional hustle and bustle
But the Hanse Sail is more than just a ship parade. Numerous attractions on land are also waiting for visitors. Around 200 artists will present various genres on 20 stages-from jazz to pop to shanty songs. In recent years, historical ships such as the sailing school “Bima Suci” have enjoyed great interest at the open-ship events. 20,000 people visited it in the past year alone. Another attraction is the Hohe Dunge naval base, which is open to visitors and offers many exciting insights into the maritime world.
organizer of the Hanse Sail are optimistic. According to a report by NDR , the local authorities also look at the event. Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger and tourism director Matthias Fromm emphasized the successful further development of the festival with new event formats. The possibility of driving to sea with traditional ships turned out to be a real crowd puller - with over 13,000 booked places last year that were almost fully booked.
an unforgettable experience in the maritime flair
Looking back, it can be seen that the Hanse Sail is an integral part of the north German event calendar. Every year she attracts around one million visitors and thus exceeds other maritime events such as the Fischerfest in Greifswald, which attracts just 50,000 visitors. The unique atmosphere and the extensive entertainment program make the Hanse Sail an incomparable experience. In addition to the impressive ship fleet and the versatile stage programs, guests can also immerse yourself in the fascinating world of seafaring, regardless of whether they want to stay on the water or on land. All of these attractions promise a fantastic festival again this year, in which the Maritime Flair of the Baltic Sea can be fully experienced. All the more, the organizers hope for a continued positive response and maybe even more traditional ships next year. Ahoi and see you soon!
