Young voices in MV: More say and better opportunities demanded!
An important event was held in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on September 29, 2025 that highlighted the voice of youth. Under the title “Youth in the State Parliament”, 30 committed young people came together to present their demands and ideas at a political level. The discussion focused on key topics such as mental health, protection against hate and extremism and the ways in which young people can have political influence. The young participants expressed their desire to have an active say in shaping their future. Loud NDR They called for more participation in political decisions and early political education, starting in primary school.
The demand for a free ticket for young people under 27 for local public transport and for improvements to bus connections in rural areas received particular attention. In addition to these practical concerns, the young people also wanted more meeting places such as youth clubs so that they could become active together. The demands aimed to increase funding for political education by 50 percent and to support projects to prevent extremism. In doing so, they make it clear that there is a great need for active and listening politics.
A real need for participation
The results of the Participation Atlas show that many young people often do not feel heard, even though there are existing youth parliaments and advisory councils. Access is often limited, especially for children from less affluent backgrounds. This is confirmed by a report from MDR. Young people from poorer households often struggle to find suitable places to spend their free time and often feel unwanted in public spaces. The urban-rural difference in terms of participation opportunities is particularly clear.
Politics must become bolder here and actively involve young people in shaping their environment. For example, empty buildings can be converted into new youth centers to offer young people more opportunities. The need for low-threshold participation opportunities is enormous, especially in rural regions. Many young people have the impression that their ideas and needs are not sufficiently incorporated into the political discussion.
Education as a key to participation
The upcoming events on political education and extremism prevention, such as the upcoming discussion on November 4th, show how important political education is for the self-empowerment of young people. These workshops use a variety of approaches and aim to explore the interfaces between political education and extremism prevention bpb firmly.
The discussions will be led by experts who address the challenges of extremism today. The exchange aims to develop perspectives on how education and awareness-raising can contribute to a stronger civil society. This makes it clear how important it is to take the concerns of young people seriously and to give them the opportunity to actively shape things.
The “Youth in the State Parliament” event shows once again that young people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are ready to take responsibility and raise their voices for more participation and participation. It is high time that their demands are heard and politicians act accordingly.
