Three thefts in Ludwigslust: Police hunt diesel thieves!
In the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, the topic of diesel theft is currently making headlines. The local police are looking for the perpetrators who stole over 1,500 liters of fuel. The unknown people were particularly bold in their actions, as ndr.de reports.
The first incident occurred on Friday night in Neu Göhren, where around 200 liters were stolen from the tank of a truck. The perpetrators were recorded by a surveillance camera. The following weekend, on Sunday night, the thieves in Vellahn had an even bigger coup: around 1,300 liters of fuel disappeared from a mobile gas station and a construction machine.
It appears that the perpetrators not only got fuel, but also tools. During this break-in, they forcibly broke open two construction containers and stole various tools, including cordless and impact wrenches. Unfortunately, the total value of the damage is still unclear. The police have secured traces and evidence at both crime scenes and are hoping for information from witnesses. Anyone who has observed something can report directly to the police in Ludwigslust or Boizenburg.
Focus on car thefts
But it's not just diesel thieves that keep the police on their toes. As presseportal.de reports, there were also two attempted vehicle thefts in Vellahn and Boizenburg in April 2025. An explosive situation as the criminal police are investigating a possible connection between the crimes. During one of the attempts to steal an Audi A6 Avant, the perpetrators apparently abandoned their plan, which may be thanks to a motion detector. In Boizenburg, the gang of thieves wanted to steal a pickup truck worth 85,000 euros, but were probably disturbed by an attentive neighbor.
The description of one of the perpetrators is of a slim person, around 1.70 to 1.80 meters tall, dressed in a dark jacket with a light hood. Information is also requested here. To protect yourself from car theft, police recommend parking high-value vehicles in secured garages or at least well-lit areas. Securely engaging the steering wheel lock or using anti-theft alarm systems could also be helpful measures.
Motor vehicle theft statistics
The problem of theft is a frequent topic in the Federal Republic. According to current ADAC statistics, a total of 14,162 comprehensively insured cars were stolen in Germany in 2023. The damage amounted to an impressive 293 million euros. Compared to 2022, the number of thefts has fallen slightly, where 14,585 cases were recorded.
High-quality SUVs as well as upper middle and luxury class vehicles are particularly popular. The numbers within the federal states show exciting differences, and Berlin stands out with 3,855 thefts, while Hamburg recorded 975 and Baden-Württemberg 635 thefts. Last year, over 25% of all nationwide thefts took place in Berlin alone. It will be all the more important that those affected rely on warning systems and lockable garages.
Given these developments, the hope remains that police and citizens will work hand in hand to stop criminals and ensure safety for everyone.
