Big day for Parchim: Opening of the Goetheschule with state-of-the-art equipment!
Today is a big day for the city of Parchim! On July 4, 2025, the new building of the “Johann Wolfgang von Goethe” regional school was ceremoniously opened. This impressive construction project is not only the largest in Parchim's history, but also a sign of the constant improvement of the educational infrastructure. From the 2025/2026 school year, around 350 students will be taught here in a total of 18 classes, with the building offering space for up to 400 students.
The new building, which was built on former military land, extends over four floors and combines the latest technology with an attractive design. A bright atrium, which serves as a central location for school events, creates a friendly atmosphere. The color design is based on Goethe's color wheel, creating an inspiring learning environment. Nordkurier reports that the building is equipped with 16 classrooms and ten specialist rooms, all of which have digital boards. This equipment is part of the school project that is funded as part of the DigitalPakt School.
Modernity and accessibility
An air-conditioned environment that both warms and cools, combined with barrier-free access, elevators and orientation aids such as guide strips and Braille, make the school a role model in terms of inclusion and accessibility. As part of the new Children's Education Center (KiBiZ), the new building will create numerous opportunities for planning and implementing a wide range of educational offerings. The students also have access to learning oases, a large school kitchen and even a break room, which provide variety in everyday school life. The city of Parchim highlights that both the outdoor areas with play equipment and a football field as well as the sustainable construction contribute to the attractiveness of the school.
The total costs of around 26.9 million euros, of which more than 14.1 million euros come from funding, show the city's commitment to education. The old school building at Wallallee 1, which was built in 1890, will also be converted in the coming years to create space for an after-school care center and a cafeteria.
A look at the future of education
The opening of the school took place in the presence of state secretaries and the mayor, who in their welcoming speeches praised the challenge that everyone involved has successfully mastered over the past few years. Despite challenges such as the pandemic and the effects of the war in Ukraine, this project was able to be realized. The DigitalPact School has played a crucial role in this by supporting investments in digital education infrastructure since 2019.
The “Johann Wolfgang von Goethe” regional school sets standards for modern learning environments in the region. It remains exciting to see how school operations will develop in this new environment and what innovative teaching and learning concepts will find space here. The anticipation for the 2025/2026 school year grows with every day!
