Rural area in Ludwigslust-Parchim: Citizens demand better connections!
Today, the home check in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district shows a clear message: life in rural areas still has room for improvement. Citizens from the region have come together and describe their concerns, especially the inadequate ones Bus connections represent an often cited source of anger.
According to the results of the check, the connection to Pritzier is particularly required in Lübtheen. Other residents' wishes come into play: cleaner streets, inviting flower borders for guests, and even additional hotel rooms and a wider range of dining options. Residents also hope that the improvement in mobile communications will make their everyday lives easier.
Citizens' concerns
In Grabow in particular, there is a push for new offers for the older generation. Too often these have fallen by the wayside: a lack of street cafés and sports facilities, a lack of parking spaces and an insufficient number of benches along the Elde are issues that affect the quality of life of seniors. There is also criticism of the city's unnecessary spending. Residents would like to finally focus on things that really count – like street renovations or age-appropriate housing.
In addition, there is a fear in Lübz that businesses could move away, which gives residents an uneasy feeling. Young people here are calling for more leisure activities such as discos or cinemas in order to make their hometown more attractive. The public transport offering also needs to be improved - bus transport often leaves a lot to be desired.
Mobility in the face of challenges
The issue of mobility in rural areas is anything but isolated. According to experts from the Federal Agency for Civic Education, 60% of all routes in rural areas rely on motorized vehicles. This mainly has to do with the lack of attractiveness of local public transport. Slow frequency, limited service times and an inadequate network represent major hurdles. The situation is further exacerbated by a noticeable shortage of specialists and declining jobs, which makes it even more difficult for citizens to get from one place to another.
FlixBus could possibly offer a solution here. The provider is one of the best-known long-distance bus providers and has an extensive list of destinations that serve not only large cities but also smaller communities. The connection between rural and urban areas could be at least partially improved, even if only for long-distance transport. While the region hopes to strengthen public transport, more innovative approaches such as autonomous driving or car sharing solutions are also conceivable to make mobility easier.
Nevertheless, the question arises: Will it be possible to create the necessary awareness of these challenges and bring the needs to the table? While the citizens of Plau am See no longer want any new wind turbines and are instead calling for better roads and more doctor's offices, the citizens' quality of life remains a central challenge.
The Schweriner Volkszeitung encourages everyone to take part in the local history check and thus actively contribute to improving the quality of life in the region. Ultimately, if you don't tackle the challenges, life in rural areas will always be a little slower than it could be.
