Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: 1.5 million euros for cultural projects in three regions!
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is drawing attention to itself with significant funding for cultural projects. A total of three rural regions in the state can look forward to 1.5 million euros each, which will be made available as part of the federal program “Aller.Land”. This was announced on June 23, 2025 by the Ministry of Science in Schwerin. The supported districts, Mecklenburg Lake District, Northwest Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania-Greifswald, will make an important contribution to cultural development in rural areas with their projects.
The funding is intended to run from 2025 to 2030 and will also be supported with ten percent of state and local funds. Culture Minister Bettina Martin described these measures as a great success that will significantly enrich the cultural landscape in rural areas. With the aim of supporting artistic projects and strengthening citizen participation, activities in the Mecklenburg Lake District are organized around Demmin under the motto “Culture for everyone in Dreistrom.Land”.
Innovation and participation
What is happening in northwest Mecklenburg, where the Gadebusch Castle of the Future is to be expanded under the motto “Boundless”? Here the initiators have shown a good knack for involving citizens in cultural activities. They also have big plans in Western Pomerania-Greifswald: Young people should develop and help shape their own ideas for the region under the motto “Youth involved”. This not only promotes culture, but also the creativity of the young generation.
The cornerstones of cultural project funding in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were introduced under easier conditions in 2018. At that time, the course was set to make access to funding easier, which was further intensified with the new cultural funding guidelines for 2023. Cultural projects that are supported with state funds can now receive up to 50,000 euros, with special procedural simplifications applying regardless of the amount of funding. Cultural workers can find the exact conditions in the cultural funding guidelines.
Design together
A central element of the “Aller.Land” program, which was launched in 2023, is strengthening culture and participation in social life in rural areas. Over 97 regions had the opportunity to participate in the first phase of the program in 2024, with each region receiving funding of 40,000 euros to develop viable concepts. In the first half of 2025, a further 30 regions were selected to test and put their ideas into practice by mid-2030. This shows a broad and sustainable focus on active cooperation.
The program partners, which include the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media and various ministries, work together to promote cultural development in structurally weak rural regions. The support is rounded off by the new financial regulations, which not only give more space to innovative projects, but also to ongoing expenses.
Overall, commitment to culture in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and especially in rural areas is on the rise. The course is set here for a creative future that both fosters traditions and gives space to new ideas.
