Tragedy in Alt Zachun: Driver dies in burning Opel!
A terrible traffic accident occurred on Saturday evening around 8:15 p.m. on the L092 near Alt Zachun, in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. A driver tragically died after his vehicle burst into flames. Several road users previously reported a conspicuous Opel that attracted attention with its risky driving style and near accidents.
The police patrol spotted the Opel shortly before Besendorf, but was unable to intervene in time. The car left the road in a left-hand bend at the entrance to Alt Zachun, crashed into a tree and immediately caught fire. The driver, whose identity has not yet been clarified, was unable to free himself from the vehicle and died at the scene of the accident.
Emergency forces mobilized
The flames quickly spread to an adjacent field. In order to prevent anything worse from happening, 42 members of the volunteer fire brigades from Alt Zachun, Neu Zachun/Hoort/Bandenitz and Rastow were mobilized, supported by rescue services and emergency doctors. The emergency services were able to successfully extinguish the fire and secure the scene of the accident. The road was completely closed for around three hours while the fire was extinguished.
The criminal police have now started an investigation into the cause of the accident; property damage is estimated at around 25,000 euros. The sad news has moved many people in the region and raises questions about the safety conditions on our roads.
