Burg Stargard celebrates the opening of the new daycare center on Papiermühlenweg!

There is reason to be happy in Stargard Castle: a new daycare center has been opened on Papiermühlenweg, which is now making an important contribution to early childhood care. Mayor Tilo Lorenz (CDU) brought gifts for the little guests on the big day and celebrated the inauguration of this modern facility with them. The daycare center now offers 84 barrier-free places for crèche and kindergarten children and is viewed as a necessary enrichment for the region despite the currently falling birth rates. What is particularly striking is that from 2026 there will even be an obligation to provide after-school care places, which underlines the importance of this new facility.

With an area of 700 square meters, the daycare center is not only spacious but also thoughtfully designed. The building will be equipped with environmentally friendly technologies, including a photovoltaic system and instantaneous water heaters for hot water preparation. Construction work on the new daycare center began in February 2023 with a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony and continued in June with the laying of the foundation stone. The topping-out ceremony took place on September 18, 2023, with the children from the adjacent daycare center at the Fairytale Forest contributing to the celebration of the day by singing.

Investing in the future of education

The municipality is showing a good hand here, as the total costs for the construction amount to around 5.2 million euros. Thanks to the financial investments and commitment of city representatives, building managers and many other stakeholders, the new daycare center will become a place of learning and development that meets the growing need for childcare places. What is particularly interesting is the fact that the old daycare center at the Märchenwald will be used as an after-school care center in the future, which will ensure continuity in the educational offering.

The example of Burg Stargard also reflects an important trend in Germany. According to destatis.de, the need for daycare places has increased constantly in recent years, which underlines a comprehensive overview of the current care offerings and the necessary personnel requirements for a needs-based expansion. In addition to the number of places available, the quality of care provided by trained staff is also becoming increasingly important.

The new daycare center in Burg Stargard not only represents a structural innovation, but also a valuable step into the future of early childhood education. It is a strong commitment to supporting children and their development and contributes to sustainably improving the quality of life in the region.
