Boiler house in Rossow burns: Fire brigade prevents damage to the house!

On the night of Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, a boiler house in Rossow, in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, was on fire. The cause of the fire is still unclear, but authorities suspect that negligent arson or a technical defect in the wood gas heater in the next room could have led to the incident. This information was confirmed by the ndr.

The fire broke out around 1:20 a.m. A total of 53 firefighters from the surrounding communities of Löcknitz, Bergholz, Rossow, Zerrenthin and Pasewalk were deployed to fight the fire. Supported by 13 fire engines, they managed to quickly bring the flames under control and prevent them from spreading to the neighboring house. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the material damage amounts to around 25,000 euros north courier reported.

Traffic obstructions due to firefighting work

Due to the extinguishing work, federal highway 104, which connects Pasewalk with the Linken and Stettin border crossings, had to be completely closed for almost two hours. The fire department's quick response prevented major damage and ensured that traffic was able to flow again soon.

Investigations are ongoing

The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is being carried out by the criminal police in Anklam. The police are currently considering the possibility that improper maintenance or a technical defect in the heating system could have caused the fire. This illustrates how important preventive measures are in fire protection, as also recommended by the vfdb highlighted in their fire damage statistics.

According to the vfdb, kitchens are the most common places for fires in Germany, followed by other areas in residential buildings. It should be noted that fires between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. often cause greater damage, although they occur less frequently. In this context, it is important that both the fire brigade and the homeowners are sensitized in order to identify and eliminate sources of danger at an early stage.

The events in Rossow show once again how important it is to take safety precautions seriously and carry out regular maintenance work. This is the only way we can protect ourselves and our homes from tragic incidents.
