An exciting variety of literary voices awaits visitors to the Waren City Library next Friday, November 7th. The author and new literary prize winner Juli Katz will read from her works from 5 p.m. Admission to this reading is free and promises to be a real highlight for literature lovers. The library, located at Zum Amtbrink 9, invites you to meet one of the emerging voices of the young literary scene.

Juli Katz, who lives in Greifswald, recently received the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Literature Prize 2024 for her touching story “Annegret wants to chicago”. This award was presented on October 13, 2024 in Greifswald, and the jury was impressed by Katz’s clear and fresh language. It is noteworthy that over 90 authors applied for this prestigious award. Katz is not only an author, but also works as a freelance journalist in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where she regularly writes for regional and national media, including major publications such as “taz” and Zeit online.

Hidden talents

When the winner was announced, Katz stood out at the competition reading, where she read from her story and captivated the audience. The other finalists such as Barbara Dickow from Neubrandenburg and Steffen Dürre from Rostock also contributed to the literary diversity of the evening. Katz's story is about the characters Annegret and Walter and addresses Annegret's desire to travel to Chicago. Katz has said she wants to research this topic further.

The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Literature Prize is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and is announced every two years. The winner not only receives 3,000 euros, but also a scholarship to the Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop and a reading tour through Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. About the price

The literary prize is supported by the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and honors the literary work of authors in the region. Applications are anonymous and possible until June 1, 2024, with submissions welcome in the categories of poetry, prose and drama. The finalists will be chosen during a reading in the STRAZE culture and initiative house in Greifswald on October 12, 2024.( literaturport.de )
