Neubrandenburg is calling for a tree planting campaign for more greenery on November 7th!
There is a special event planned in Neubrandenburg next Friday, November 7th: the tree planting campaign entitled “Neubrandenburg is planting!”. The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Weitin, on Carl-Scheele-Straße towards Woggersiner Straße. This is not only a great opportunity for citizens to actively contribute to the greening of their city, but also part of a national tree planting challenge that aims to create more green in urban areas. According to [Strelitzius](https://strelitzius.com/2025/11/03/neubrandenburg-plantt-in-weitin- Werden-mit-buergerhilfe-setzlinge-in-die-erde-bring/), a large number of approximately 50 cm high seedlings are planted, which offer optimal conditions for a good start in autumn.
The initiative not only promotes sustainable urban greening, but also climate protection and urban quality of life. In keeping with the local tree planting plan, which aims to create new green habitats, this day will be a celebration for all nature lovers. The organizers provide some spades, but it is recommended that you bring your own. If you want to get involved, you should wear sturdy shoes and clothing suitable for the weather so that you are well prepared even in unpleasant weather. However, if the weather is bad, the event could be canceled.
Green spaces for a better urban climate
But what makes planting trees so important? Researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have proven in various studies that trees not only improve the microclimate, but also make a decisive contribution to protection against weather extremes. As a result, the green spaces serve as valuable recreational spaces for the city population. In their FutureBioCity project, they are also investigating how public green spaces are selected and what role the tree structure plays in giving citizens an even better feeling of well-being. People feel particularly comfortable in urban areas with a high level of tree diversity, as KIT found out.
However, a direct connection between the diversity of tree species and well-being has not yet been proven, but the importance of trees in improving air quality and leisure activities in the city is undeniable. The researchers suggest that increasing tree cover by at least 30 percent could reduce the number of extreme heat hours by almost 64 percent and annual water runoff by 58 percent. Such measures help reduce the negative impacts of climate change and can significantly improve the health of city residents.
On Friday in Neubrandenburg, everyone interested has the opportunity to become part of this positive development. The tree planting campaign “Neubrandenburg is planting!” is a step in the right direction! Every spade that is pushed into the ground is a small contribution to a greener and more livable city. So, head to Carl-Scheele-Straße and work together to create more greenery!
