Eco-pioneer from Hohenmocker wins KfW prize for sustainable house construction

In Hohenmocker near Demmin, HALM GmbH has reason to be happy! The company was recently recognized as the state winner in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the renowned KfW Awards. This happened at a celebratory awards ceremony that took place in Berlin on November 6th. The award is a nice confirmation of HALM's innovative orientation, which is characterized by the use of a new type of wood-straw module system in its construction. The focus here is on regional wood and straw, which is not only environmentally friendly but also supports regional crafts.

The founders and managing directors, Thorin Wäschle, and his team have dedicated themselves entirely to prefabrication: the building shells are prefabricated in a separate hall and erected by the company's own assembly teams within a few days. The company not only does good business, but also provides important impetus for sustainable construction and the regional economy. This is also how KfW describes it, which awards this prize to founders who pursue innovative paths.

The KfW Award reasons

The KfW Start-Up Award is being presented for the 28th time and is part of a nationwide competition that aims to appeal to start-ups and young entrepreneurs. It honors the best business ideas and offers a platform for those who create entrepreneurial added value and assume social responsibility. This year a total of 16 state winners competed for the national victory. The national winner, Qdrant Solutions GmbH from Berlin, not only receives prize money of 10,000 euros, but also media coverage and contacts with other founders. The special “Succession” prize went to the Hodapp carpentry workshop from Saarbrücken.

The prize money for the national winners is 1,000 euros each, and HALM deservedly won with its creative and sustainable construction method. The jury includes representatives from business and politics who select the best concepts after thorough examination. The KfW Award Entrepreneur Network also offers participants valuable support.

An innovative way into the future

HALM shows once again that innovative thinking and responsible use of resources can go hand in hand. The company's construction method not only contributes to the creation of value in the region, but also promotes awareness of sustainable construction. An approach that will continue to be popular in the future and can provide further inspiration for other companies. KfW sees this competition as an opportunity to support founders and have a positive impact on society and the economy.

We warmly congratulate HALM on this success and look forward to the future of the construction industry, which will undoubtedly become greener and more sustainable thanks to innovative companies like HALM!
