Michelin 2025: Germany shines with a record number of stars!
On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the eagerly awaited Michelin stars for Germany were awarded in Frankfurt. This year there was a new record: a total of 341 restaurants received at least one star - that's one more restaurant than in the previous year. Particularly noteworthy are the two new top restaurants that were awarded three stars. These new additions are the “Restaurant Haerlin” in Hamburg, led by chef Christoph Rüffer, and the “Tohru in der Schreiberei” in Munich, led by Tohru Nakamura. Their extraordinary culinary concepts impress on all levels and set new standards in gastronomy.
The awarding of the stars is an important event for the gastronomy industry and attracts a lot of attention. Additional culinary awards were also presented on this special day. The Cocktail Award went to Michele Heinrich from Yaldy in Frankfurt, while Marie-Helen Krebs from Ikigai in Schloss Elmau received the Sommelier Award. The Mentor Chef Award was presented to Claus-Peter Lumpp from Bareiss in Baiersbronn, while Luis Hendricks from Pietsch in Wernigerode was named Young Chef of the Year. Finally, Daniela Oos from the Wein- und Tafelhaus in Trittenheim received the Service Award.
The new star distribution
A total of 12 restaurants can now look forward to the highest award of three stars. In addition to the two new additions, these are:
- Rutz (Berlin)
- Bareiss (Baiersbronn)
- Schwarzwaldstube (Baiersbronn)
- Jan (München)
- Es:senz (Grassau)
- The Table (Hamburg)
- Aqua (Wolfsburg)
- Waldhotel Sonnora (Dreis)
- Schanz. Restaurant (Piesport)
- Victor’s Fine Dining by Christian Bau (Perl)
If you look at the distribution of stars in the different federal states, some interesting trends emerge. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the number of star restaurants fell from 52 to 46, with 10 restaurants losing their star. It is all the more pleasing that in Baden-Württemberg the number remains stable at 73 and three new star restaurants have even been added. Lower Saxony now has a three-star restaurant, the “Aqua” in Wolfsburg. This shows that, despite all the challenges, gastronomy is very popular and there are always new highlights.
A look at the new awards
In addition, 47 restaurants were awarded two stars, including five new additions such as “Oswalds Gourmetstube” in Teisnach and “Gotthardt’s by Yannick Noack” in Koblenz. 282 restaurants can also look forward to a star, with 30 being new climbers into the star league. The 80 restaurants that have received the Green Star for environmentally conscious gastronomy should be particularly proud. Of the 15 restaurants that received the Bib Gourmand for value for money, some new establishments can also be welcomed.
This year's award impressively shows that German gastronomy is in a constant state of change, characterized by creativity and the courage to try something new. How developments continue will remain exciting and we can look forward to the next few years. Further information about the star chefs and restaurants can of course be found in the Michelin Guide Germany 2025, which will be available from May for 29.95 euros.
