Final concert: Wenzel celebrates the end of the Burgsee station!

On October 31, 2025, fans of songwriter Hans-Eckhardt Wenzel will have to prepare for a big change. The artist, who performed at the opening of the Station Burgsee restaurant in Gadebusch in 2012, will give his final concert on Monday, November 24th in the same restaurant, whose closure was announced by Holger Hempel, the owner of the station. According to that Uckermark courier Hempel has a close friendly connection with Wenzel, and the concert represents an important part of his project.

An impressive 100 of the 120 tickets for the planned final concert have already been sold, which underlines the popularity and importance of the songwriter. However, the closure of the restaurant also brings with it the sale of special objects: a sleeping car from Erich Honecker's former government train and a car from the Orient Express are for sale. Although Hempel has numerous interested parties, he only maintains close contact with two potential buyers.

A new vision for Gadebusch

A particularly exciting aspect is the idea of being able to keep the two wagons in Gadebusch and perhaps use them as an unusual hotel idea. Hempel would like these nostalgic pieces not to simply be sold, but rather incorporated into a new usage concept. The locomotive in the restaurant, however, will remain and will continue to honk daily at 12 noon, providing a nostalgic connection to the past.

The restaurant itself will be closed after the sold-out Christmas buffet on December 26, 2025. Renovation work to change the use of the location will begin on January 5, 2026, which will mean further change for the popular square in Gadebusch.
