Jabel Fire Department: New fire engine secures the community for the future!
The Jabel Volunteer Fire Department can breathe a sigh of relief! On August 15, 2025, she received a grant of 155,000 euros to purchase a new fire engine (LF 10). The decision was ceremoniously handed over to Mayor Johannes Güssmer by State Secretary Wolfgang Schmülling, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Ministry of the Interior, Construction and Digitalization. This is good news, because the total cost for the LF 10 is an impressive 490,000 euros. The municipality itself will provide most of the financing, while the district will contribute around 150,000 euros. This financial support is not just a stroke of luck - the community has been trying to get the new fire engine for eight years.
But the new car needs space! Mayor Güssmer explained that the vehicle had to be parked outdoors for the time being because the existing tool shed was simply too small. For this reason, the community plans to soon apply for funding to expand the tool shed. Despite an oversubscribed application list, they want to act quickly to meet the needs of the fire department.
Signal for the economy
The importance of the fire department goes beyond fire protection and also has economic aspects. In the summer months, when tourism in the region increases, a well-equipped fire department is essential. SPD member of the state parliament Nadine Julitz also emphasizes this. The new fire engine is seen as an important signal for economic development in the community and is intended to help ensure that both residents and tourists have a feeling of safety.
In the meantime, the fire department remains active. The Jabel fire department was recently on duty in Damerow when a pizza oven burst into flames. She was supported by other volunteer fire departments, an impressive example of community work among fire departments.
A look into the future
The procurement of the LF 10 is planned for 2026 as part of the state central procurement. Delivery of the new vehicle is expected in autumn next year. This progress could help further improve safety standards in the community.
The volunteer fire department is of great importance not only during peak activity in the summer, but also in the long term for the overall development of the community. Although the challenge of improving infrastructure is still on the agenda, the future looks bright for the Jabel Fire Department and its volunteer comrades. Nordkurier reports that… The foundation is being laid so that the fire department can master the major challenges of the coming years!
