Hansa fans devastate rest stop: ball bomb injures 14-year-old!

On May 17, 2025, a shocking incident occurred at the Schönberger Land motorway service station in northwest Mecklenburg that agitated people. Hansa fans, frustrated after a defeat to Hannover II, turned the rest stop into an environment of danger when they detonated a bullet bomb. A 14-year-old girl from Kröpelin and her mother were injured in the detonation and a traffic sign was destroyed. Baltic Sea newspaper reported that the situation could only be cooled down when the police and an ambulance arrived.

The family was returning from an eventing tournament in Hamburg when they stopped at the rest stop. As it turned out, the Hansa fans were under the influence of their emotional disappointment, which resulted in the explosion of a bullet bomb. The consequences of the explosion were devastating: the girl suffered tinnitus and psychological trauma. The family's horse also showed unmistakable behavioral changes linked to the incident. The mother has already taken legal action against those responsible and has hired a lawyer, while the public prosecutor's office and the police are actively looking for witnesses.

Pyrotechnics in the stadium

This incident once again raises questions about the dangers of illegal pyrotechnics. Pyrotechnics are an absolute no-go not only in German football stadiums, but also in public, especially due to the associated safety risks. The law firm clarifies that the use of such dangerous fireworks can result in fines, stadium bans and even imprisonment. In particular, carrying and burning pyrotechnic materials is strictly prohibited and can have serious legal consequences.

The Zündel excesses are not an isolated phenomenon. Similar disturbing riots also occurred during an Eastern derby between Hansa Rostock and Dynamo Dresden on February 24, 2025. Loud Day24 Flares and other pyrotechnic devices were used during the game, resulting in a 30-minute interruption. This once again showed how explosive the matter is, as numerous fans and police officers were injured and only quick police intervention could prevent even worse things from happening.

The end of a silence?

The incidents surrounding Hansa Rostock cast a dark light on the fan culture in German football. The public prosecutor's office is continuing to investigate the case, while Hansa Rostock has contacted the injured family and offered a small consolation in the form of an invitation to a test match. But the question remains: How long will it take for these violent outbreaks to stop? It is to be hoped that legal measures and increased awareness of the dangers of pyrotechnics will lead to a rethink in fan culture.
