Jamel rocks the forester: legal battle over safety and festive joy!

The democracy festival “Jamel rocks the forester” is about to begin, but the event is facing a lengthy legal dispute. How Northern Courier reported, the Higher Administrative Court in Greifswald decided last Tuesday on the contested requirements of the municipality of Gägelow, which for the first time demanded a lease for the use of municipal land. The organizers had registered the festival as a long-term meeting in order to avoid these fees.

In the course of the dispute, the district of Northwest Mecklenburg entered into the discussion with additional requirements, which were, however, partially overturned by the Schwerin Administrative Court. Among other things, the ban on alcohol and the ban on glass bottles fell, which the Higher Administrative Court has now partially withdrawn: While alcohol consumption is permitted, glass bottles remain prohibited. A clear folder key must also be maintained, as the court decision specifies.

Public safety in focus

District Administrator Tino Schomann sees this decision as confirming his opinion that the requirements are not arbitrary, but are intended to maintain public safety. He emphasizes that respectful cooperation between both the organizers and the authorities is desirable. This was also confirmed by Thomas Grote from the CDU, who welcomed the court decision. In contrast, Michael Noetzel from the Left Party expresses his concerns about the district administrator's actions and calls for more support for the festival.

The criticism is also reinforced by Nikolaus Kramer from the AfD, who sees the decision as problematic and fears a possible precedent. However, the organizers themselves have not yet commented on the developments and remain in limbo.

A festival with tradition

The festival, which is scheduled to take place from August 22nd to 23rd, 2025, can look back on an impressive past. In previous years, greats such as Die Fantastischen Vier and Die Ärzte have performed, making “Jamel rocks the Förster” a popular event among music lovers. In view of current events, it remains to be seen how the final preparations and legal proceedings will affect the festival.

Despite all the challenges and the uncertain situation, there is great anticipation for this year's festival. Because what would a summer be without the thrilling sounds and community that such an event brings?
