Young Wismar resident completes Minecraft cruise ship after 8 years!
In an impressive project, 21-year-old Tim Wendlandt from Wismar worked for eight years on an extraordinary replica of the cruise ship AIDAblu in Minecraft. The construction of the virtual ship includes an impressive 630,000 blocks and delights not only gamers but also cruise fans. Tim, who discovered his passion for these magnificent ships at the tender age of seven, began building them when he was 13 years old. He found inspiration above all in his first cruise in 2014, which gave him valuable impressions for his ambitious project. He never had to resort to the AIDAblu itself because he had already visited a similar ship.
Every detail counts
The effort that Tim put into his project is enormous. Each of the over 1,000 cabins, the numerous restaurants and the characteristic elements such as the AIDA kissing mouth have been recreated in every detail. Just creating the kissing mouth took a week. In order to be able to work authentically, the young designer used Internet images, YouTube videos and precise deck plans as references. There were set breaks in the hard work, but Tim was never discouraged and the entire ship was ambitiously completed in the summer of 2023. As soon as that was done, he already devoted himself to building the AIDAnova, currently the largest ship in the fleet, which is half completed.
AIDAblu: A technical masterpiece
AIDAblu itself is a remarkable cruise ship from AIDA Cruises, which was manufactured in several units between 2010 and 2013. With a length of 253 meters and a width of 32 meters, it belongs to the modified Sphinx class, which also includes sister ships such as AIDAstella and AIDAmar. Meyer Werft, which is responsible for the construction, placed particular emphasis on energy efficiency. Innovative technologies, such as flow-optimized propellers and a low-friction underwater coating, help reduce fuel consumption.
Another highlight on board is the theatrium - a glass funnel that forms the heart of the ship. This impressive structure spans the entire width of the ship and serves as a central event location. AIDAblu is also proud to be home to the world's first floating brewery, whose water comes from an innovative seawater desalination plant.
The fascination of cruising
The fascination for cruises is clearly evident in the construction of such impressive ships. Tim Wendlandt's ambitious project reflects not only personal passion, but also the growing trend of the cruise industry. AIDA Cruises' ships, such as the AIDAmira, which was renamed in 2019, invite more and more travelers to experience the comfort and diversity on board.
Tim Wendlandt and his Minecraft project impressively show how creativity in the digital world can reach new dimensions. It will be exciting to see how his journey and the world of cruising develop in the future.
