An outstanding experience for the German karate scene was the return of the national team from Japan. With 12 participants, the German delegation set off on the long journey to Matsuyama, which took around 22 hours and began two days before the competition. The team consisted of a total of 70 people and competed against 750 athletes from 31 nations.
