Sickness rates continue to fall in northwest Mecklenburg: respiratory diseases dominate!

In the Northwest Mecklenburg district, sickness rates fortunately fell in the first half of 2025. According to DAK-Gesundheit, sickness rates fell from 6.9 to 6.4 percent. This means that the value is below the state average for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which is 6.5 percent. Employees were on sick leave for an average of around twelve days between January and June. The decline in days lost is particularly notable: DAK recorded around 1,156 days lost per 100 insured persons, which represents a decrease of 8.2 percent compared to the same period last year.

What drives people to take sick leave so often? The most common causes are respiratory diseases, which are at the top of the list with 261 days of absence per 100 insured people. This is followed by complaints of the musculoskeletal system with 198 days of absence and mental illnesses with 170 days of absence.

Health awareness among employees

The Forsa survey is also interesting, showing that young employees under the age of 30 are now more sensitive to their health than before the pandemic. 54 percent of those surveyed said they were more cautious about infections. Another notable point: 83 percent deliberately call in sick to prevent their health situation from getting worse. This represents an increase compared to 2015 and shows that a change in thinking has taken place.

DAK-Gesundheit looks after around 15,000 insured people in the Northwest Mecklenburg district and is actively committed to prevention and health promotion in the workplace. This could also have a positive impact on reduced sickness rates and goes hand in hand with efforts to strengthen the health of employees in the long term.

A look at the effects of weather and lighting conditions

In parallel to the discussion about health and loss of work, choosing the right equipment for sports and leisure is important. The lenses of ski goggles play a crucial role, especially in snow and winter sports. The different ink combinations, such as the “ChromaPop™ Photochromic Rose Flash”, adapt to the lighting conditions and improve visibility, which is particularly advantageous in changeable conditions. These lenses are ideal for partly cloudy to sunny weather and offer a light transmittance (VLT) of 20% to 50%.

Additionally, the “ChromaPop™ Everyday” lens provides good visibility on snow, making it a smart choice for various weather conditions. Here the VLT is at 25%, which makes it an all-rounder for different lighting conditions. Such optimized technologies not only support safety, but also promote the well-being of athletes.

So let's remain optimistic: With the decline in sickness and increasing health awareness among employees, there is a good chance that the coming months will also see slightly fewer absences due to illness. A combination of prevention, responsible health management and the right equipment can help promote the safety and health of everyone.
