Cycling for a good cause: Tour supports children with cancer!
About 200 cyclists set out to cycle from Rostock to Eutin and back again - an impressive performance over four days, which is all about solidarity for families with children with cancer. In a colorful group, supported by Claus Ruhe Madsen, the Minister of Economics in Schleswig-Holstein, the cycling enthusiasts start their tour in Grevesmühlen today, which begins with a fine lunch meal of schnitzel and potatoes. This tour is part of the Hansetour Sonnenschein, which has conquered the hearts of many people from Hamburg since its first campaign in 1997 and now, as Sonnenscheintour.de, takes place again in 2025.
The fundraising campaign has an ambitious goal: up to 100,000 euros should be collected to help families in difficult times. In Grevesmühlen, the city and companies and wind projects have already generously donated. A total of 4,200 euros flow into the cash register here, while almost 2,000 euros have been raised by the committed school children from Neukloster. Each participant in the tour also contributes to support with a saddle money of 220 euros, which shows how great interest and helpfulness are in the region.
heart and soul of the tour
The Hansetour Sonnenschein is particularly important this year because it is in Schleswig-Holstein, at the reconnaissance battalion 6 in Eutin. The motto of the Eutiner - "Children, we are no better than the others, we are just different!" - inspire the participants and express the community spirit that the bike tour embodies. The Flottillen Admiral and commander of the State Command Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Ulrich Reineke, will also take part in the tour, which further underlines the status and support of the Bundeswehr, how [Ostsee-zeitung.de] (https://www.ostsee-zeitung.de/lokales/nordwestmecklenburg/grevesmüehlen/radeln-fuer-kinder-krebs-rostocks--s-uf-tour- through represent.
The route leads the cyclists over Lübeck, Kiel, Heiligenhafen and Grömitz before heading for Bad Segeberg and Neumünster on the third day. The back tour on July 19 will lead you back to Rostock-Warnemünde via Travemünde, Boltenhagen, Wismar and Kühlungsborn. With the support of 34 companies from northern Germany, every donor and participant is given a piece of joy and hope.
Together against cancer
Another example of the tireless use for children with cancer is the “Bike-to-Help” project by the Bühler family, which was launched with a similar goal: it supports children with cancer and their families in Freiburg. The personal connection between the Bühler and a parents' house that became her “second home” during her daughter Lotta's illness motivates her to actively get involved. Ultimately, it is about donating consolation and joie de vivre and doing something, such as Helfen-hilft.de.
The Hansetour sunshine symbolically stands for this cohesion in difficult times. It is a moving memory of how important it is to be there for each other, especially if the challenges of life seem too great. With such a strong community, every bike tour can become a real experience of humanity.
