Cycling for a good cause: Tour supports children with cancer!
Around 200 cyclists set out to cycle from Rostock to Eutin and back again - an impressive achievement over four days that is all about solidarity for families with children with cancer. In a colorful group, supported by Claus Ruhe Madsen, Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Economics, the cycling enthusiasts start their tour today in Grevesmühlen, which begins with a delicious lunch of schnitzel and potatoes. This tour is part of the Hansetour Sonnenschein, which has captured the hearts of many people since its first event in 1997 from Hamburg to Rostock and is now taking place again in 2025, as sonnenscheintour.de reports.
The fundraising campaign has an ambitious goal: up to 100,000 euros should be collected to help families in difficult times. In Grevesmühlen, the city and companies such as Windprojekt have already donated generously. A total of 4,200 euros flow into the fund, while almost 2,000 euros were raised by the dedicated school children from Neukloster. Each participant on the tour also contributes a saddle fee of 220 euros, which shows how great the interest and willingness to help is in the region.
Heart and soul of the tour
The Sunshine Hanseatic Tour is particularly important this year because it is centered in Schleswig-Holstein, at the Reconnaissance Battalion 6 in Eutin. The Eutiners’ motto – “Children, we are not better than the others, we are just different!” – inspires participants and expresses the community spirit that the bike ride embodies. The flotilla admiral and commander of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Command, Ulrich Reineke, will also take part in the tour at times, which further underlines the status and support of the Bundeswehr [ostsee-zeitung.de].
The route takes cyclists via Lübeck, Kiel, Heiligenhafen and Grömitz before heading to Bad Segeberg and Neumünster on the third day. The return trip on July 19th will take you back to Rostock-Warnemünde via Travemünde, Boltenhagen, Wismar and Kühlungsborn. With the support of 34 companies from northern Germany, every donor and participant is given a piece of joy and hope.
Together against cancer
Another example of the tireless commitment to children with cancer is the Bühler family's “Bike-to-help” project, which was launched with a similar goal: it supports children with cancer and their families in Freiburg. The Bühlers' personal connection to a parental home that became their “second home” during their daughter Lotta's illness motivates them to get actively involved. Ultimately, it's about giving comfort and joy of life and making a difference, as help-hilft.de addresses.
The Hanseatic Tour Sunshine symbolizes this solidarity in difficult times. It's a moving reminder of the importance of being there for each other, especially when life's challenges seem too great. With such a strong community, every bike ride can become a real experience of humanity.
