Rico Gindler elected as new mayor in Rüting!
On November 2, 2025, the municipality of Rüting in the Grevesmühlen Land office elected 49-year-old Rico Gindler from the CDU as the new head of the municipal administration in a mayoral election. Gindler received a massive 196 votes, while his competitor Andreas Böhm was only able to get 80 votes as an individual candidate. The voter turnout was 62 percent and shows that citizens are keenly interested in local responsibility.
The election became necessary after long-time mayor Holger Hinze died unexpectedly on May 19, 2025. Hinze, who had been at the head of the municipality since 1994 and is considered one of the longest-serving mayors in Mecklenburg, was highly valued in the region. In his memory, the flags fly at half-mast at the administrative offices of the Northwest Mecklenburg district. He leaves behind a wife and an adult son, and his services to the community were recognized by District Administrator Tino Schomann and District Council President Thomas Grote.
Rico Gindler's career and plans
The new mayor Gindler brings with him a strong professional background. As a mechanical engineer and liaison officer in the Bundeswehr, he has sound training and a lot of practical knowledge. He has also been involved as a community representative and trainer with the FSV for years, which makes him well connected and popular in the community. For the future, Gindler plans to further develop the community and strengthen cohesion in the districts of Diedrichshagen, Schildberg and Vierhausen.
The municipal landscape of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is currently intensively preparing for elections. The mayoral runoff elections show what citizens are willing to do to ensure good administration. Particularly in recent years, many communities have increasingly addressed the wishes and ideas of their residents, which is likely to be no different in Rüting. With Gindler at the helm as a breath of fresh air, the community will certainly be able to look forward to exciting developments.
A look back
Hinze's unexpected death caused consternation not only in Rüting, but throughout the entire northwest Mecklenburg region. His term in office was characterized by continuity and commitment, which made him a familiar face in local politics. His successor will therefore have to live up to great expectations and a heavy responsibility.
The developments in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania clearly show how important local politics is for the citizens. Over the years, citizen movements have brought a whole new dynamic to decision-making processes. The election in Rüting is another example of how desired changes can be initiated in communities.
In the coming months, people in the region will be eagerly watching how Rico Gindler tackles his new tasks and what progress he can achieve for Rüting and its citizens. The course has been set - now it's time to put the plans into action and justify the trust of the voters.
