Rock at the church: hundreds of celebrations for human rights in Carlow!
What a spectacle: Hundreds of music lovers gathered on July 12, 2025 in Carlow, Nordwestmecklenburg to celebrate the “Rock at the Church” at the Benefiz Festival. With a varied program that offered both well-known hits and new talents, the organizers of the Kulturkreis Carlow e.V. and the Evangelical Lutheran parish brought together their community.
The event, which was already taking place for the 15th time this year, was opened with a movie on Friday evening, July 11th. "Monsieur Claude 2" was shown on the open -air stage and attracted numerous visitors. On Saturday, five bands rocked the stage, including the debut appearances of the newly founded band Locked in. These voted the audience with cover songs from ABBA, Queen and Metallica, which provided numerous enthusiastic reactions. Front man Peter Hinrichs from the Coverband Ricas Palace was particularly enthusiastic and emphasized the great atmosphere in the audience. Maximilian Blume also knew how to convince when he performed the popular Diestelmann song "The Alte and the Pub".
Together for a good cause
"Rock at the Church" is not only a musical highlight, but also an event with heart. All artists performed without a fee, and the entire event was held by volunteers. The donations collected will benefit the association "Borderline Europe - Human Rights Without Borders" and regional projects. Among other things, the purchase of a bank for the Maurinmühle memorial and memory path is to be supported, which prepares the story of a former water mill. In addition, a figure theater is promoted for children in the region.
On Sunday, July 13th, the festival will be completed with a musical service at 11 a.m. in front of the church. Here visitors can enjoy the holiday atmosphere and enjoy the sounds of the music.
cultural relevance of music festivals
The importance of such advantages for local culture is emphasized by a nationwide study, which is presented in the summer of 2025 and examines the challenges and the cultural relevance of music festivals in Germany. The study examines how festivals contribute to identity, offer newcomers opportunities and can act as business drivers. An important component is also the voluntary work, which shapes many of these events and revives the festival culture.
Overall, "Rock am the Church" once again shows how important such festivals are for the community. Not only musically, but also socially and culturally, a sign is set here. If you want to learn more about the event, you can find more information on the website of the Kulturkreis Carlow.
For everyone who will continue to be interested in musical events in the coming years, it is to hope that the results of the study will provide another impetus for the importance of music festivals in Germany. Music connects, and such events as in Carlow are the living proof of this.
