Schönberg invests in cisterns: fire-fighting water supply for everyone!

There is news in the city of Schönberg that is important for those who have been replaced in the remote districts. Here we are fighting against inadequate drinking water supplies, which also affects firefighting in an emergency. In order to increase the safety of residents, the city is planning to build an above-ground cistern on Obere Feldstrasse, which will have an impressive capacity of 120,000 liters of fire-fighting water. District Administrator Tino Schomann has provided 30,000 euros in funding for this. The entire construction is expected to cost around 50,900 euros and will begin this year.

The new cistern will not only benefit the approximately 40 residents in the area, but will also supply the planned new development area, which will provide space for around 300 new residential units. Even though up to 20,000 liters of water can freeze in winter, the design ensures that the rest remains protected. If you compare the measures with similar projects, you can see that an underground cistern in Retelsdorf cost 59,502 euros in 2011 and one in Lüdersdorf cost 170,000 euros in 2019.
Ostsee Zeitung reports that these cisterns are easy to maintain and there is no risk of clogging or accumulations of leaves.

Flexible solutions for the future

The use of foldable fire water cisterns is a prime example of modern, flexible solutions. These cisterns are mobile and do not require a foundation, which makes their use particularly uncomplicated. Because they are designed to withstand temperatures from -30 °C to +70 °C, they are a variable solution for a wide range of applications, including forest fire fighting or in agriculture as rainwater storage. The high quality of the material also ensures a long service life and efficient protection of the liquid from contamination and evaporation.

In Germany there were around 1,059 forest fires in 2023, which affected more than 1,200 hectares of forest areas in Salitteraus. Such events make it clear how important a well-equipped fire-fighting water supply is. Despite the frequent dependence on central systems with hydrants, there are countless places where alternative water extraction points from streams, lakes or fire water tanks are urgently needed. Investing in flexible solutions proves to be a far-sighted step for the safety and effectiveness of the fire department in an emergency. Tankhandel emphasizes that suitable fire water cisterns can also be used temporarily at events or in infrastructure projects.

Security for everyone

The supply of fire-fighting water is an important task in Germany that is often carried out by the communities themselves. Although the legal regulation varies from federal state to federal state, the need for sufficient provision is undisputed. Schönberg shows that the fire protection needs of citizens can also be met efficiently with modern, mobile solutions. The construction of the new cistern is not only a step towards security, but also a signal for future-oriented planning in the region. Investing in this infrastructure is perhaps the best deal for the safety of all residents. Wikipedia points out that communities are often responsible for supplying fire-fighting water, which not only improves fire protection but also the quality of life in rural areas.
