In a sad event for the community in Rehna, Matthias Maack, a long-time local politician and event manager, has died. The 57-year-old succumbed to his health challenges after a months-long battle with cancer. Maack was well known and appreciated in the monastery town of Rehna and the northwest Mecklenburg region.
Together with his brother Michael, he founded the company Maack Event, which is responsible for numerous events in the region. The Rehna Open Air, his company's largest event, was a highlight that attracted many visitors to the city every year. The event company also organized village festivals, tractor treks, the German lawnmower championships in Bülow and vintage car meetings in Rehna. For this entrepreneurial achievement, Matthias Maack and his brother were honored as Entrepreneur of the Year by the Nordwestmecklenburg district in 2016, as uv-mv.de reports.
Political commitment and challenges
Matthias Maack was not only active as an entrepreneur, but was also involved in local politics. He was deputy mayor and ran for mayor in 2024 for the Alternative Voters' Community (AWG). His political career began in 2009 when he became a city representative on various committees in Rehna. He also temporarily headed the city's finance committee. The biggest challenge of his political career was undoubtedly dealing with the Corona crisis, which also severely affected his event company.
Looking back on his career, Maack took over his father's beverage store in 2004 and, together with his brother, expanded it into a beverage wholesaler and an event company. His tireless commitment to the community and the promotion of regional events leaves a noticeable gap in Rehna.
The mourning for Matthias Maack will be felt far beyond the city limits. His impulses and tireless commitment to the region will be remembered. The community will honor his memory.
