The 57-year-old succumbed to his health challenges after a months-long battle with cancer. Maack was well known and appreciated in the monastery town of Rehna and the northwest Mecklenburg region.

The Rehna Open Air, his company's largest event, was a highlight that attracted many visitors to the city every year. The event company also organized village festivals, tractor treks, the German lawnmower championships in Bülow and vintage car meetings in Rehna.
