Tuning for a good cause: Over 11,000 euros collected against cancer!

On June 21, 2025, the fourth edition of the tuning event “Stance Against Cancer” took place in the picturesque Bernstorf Castle Park near Grevesmühlen, which not only celebrated automotive passion, but also made an important contribution to the fight against cancer. Over 150 tuned vehicles from northern Germany were presented and attracted numerous visitors who not only showed their enthusiasm for cars, but also for a great project that is rooted in the region. The organizers of the event, in collaboration with the “Gebrettert Crew”, were able to set an entry price of 5.00 euros per visitor and passenger, 100 percent of the proceeds of which went to the Bernstorf Castle Hospice. This strong community effort was led by Dr. Wolfgang Röhr, the founder of the hospice, was honored as an excellent example of solidarity.

This charity event was able to raise over 11,000 euros for the hospice, which was a great success not only for those in attendance, but also for the people who need support in the hospice in their most difficult moments. Philipp Röhr, managing director of the hospice, emphasized the essential role played by the community and the donative visitors. “A platform is being created here that serves both automotive passion and, above all, social commitment,” says Röhr.

The Bernstorf Castle Hospice: A place of hope

The Hospice Schloss Bernstorf, opened in 2014 after extensive renovation of the historic building, has established itself since its opening as one of the central contact points for seriously ill people in the region. There are 16 places available in a cozy setting and over 4,500 inquiries have been recorded since the opening. The history of the castle is also impressive: Originally inhabited by the von Bernstorff family until 1945, the building experienced varied use after the end of the war, which was characterized by vacancies and neglect. However, thanks to the commitment and support of partners and the community, the castle was able to be used for a new purpose.

*Hospices in Germany*: It is estimated that there are around 260 inpatient hospices, with around 95% of the operating costs being covered by health and nursing care insurance companies. The remaining 5% must be covered through donations and fundraisers such as “Stance Against Cancer”. A change in the law in 2009 enabled patients to be exempt from co-payments and thus receive additional support in the final phase of their lives.

Commitment to seriously ill people

Events like “Stance Against Cancer” are more than just gatherings of car enthusiasts; They are an expression of great solidarity within the community and show how important it is to support the needs of seriously ill people. The German Society for Palliative Medicine is committed to the goal of improving the situation of seriously ill and dying people in Germany. For this purpose, they offer a comprehensive online address database that lists over 3,000 contact points for hospice and palliative care, supported by the relevant associations.

Overall, the event not only shows the joy of vehicles, but also how joy and suffering can be combined in so many different ways. With a solid plan and the strength of community, much can be achieved, and the event powerfully demonstrated that no one should be left alone.
