There's a lot going on in Wismar right now - both in the area of care and at large events. Particularly noteworthy is the move of Ellen and Abbi Wagener, who live separately in Wismar after 59 happy years of marriage after Abbi was placed in a nursing home with dementia. The move was necessary because the nursing place in Wismar was cheaper and available more quickly than in Bremen. According to statistics, more than 3% of the German population is in need of care. Care is often provided by relatives at home, and if this is no longer possible, moving to a nursing home is often a good alternative. Another topic that concerns people in and around Wismar are the construction plans for renewing the road between Rampe and Wickendorf. These have been adjusted to minimize traffic disruptions and a full closure of Federal Highway 104 will begin on July 28th and will continue until August 9th.
