How NDR reports, the Wismar citizenship decided to increase the assessment rates for property tax after a meeting on October 30, 2025. This means that the assessment rates for property tax A will rise from 257 to 366 percent and for property tax B from 541 to 579 percent. Although this is a legal obligation, there is noticeable dissatisfaction among citizens about it.

An amendment from the left-wing faction, which only allows the new assessment rate to apply until the end of 2027, was accepted. The original plan was to keep the regulation in force until the end of 2030. The Liberal List - FDP was also able to ensure that the statutes would be examined immediately if new information about property tax emerged. The last determination of these rates took place under protest in December 2024.
