Police in MV: Illegal training with war ammunition revealed!

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a huge scandal is brewing. Special units of the police have trained for years without approval with war weapons ammunition in the private shooting range “Great Bockhorst” in Güstrow. As the Ostsee-Zeitung have been reported at least since In 2008 and even included “Special Forces workshops”. All of this was obviously related to a right-wing extremist environment, more precisely the Prepper group “Nordkreuz”.

The Schwerin Ministry of the Interior now had to admit that not everything was lost according to the book and certainly not legally. Between 2015 and 2019, ammunition was used, the strict regulations of the Warwaffe control law (Krwaffcong). The operator of the shooting range, a certain Frank T., is not only a weapon dealer, but also in connection with the right group, and at times also had a member in a “Nordkreuz” chat group.

studies and consequences

The situation continued to escalate when the Rostock public prosecutor's office was investigating possible violations of the War Weapons Control Act in 2021. However, the procedure was discontinued because the suspicion was not confirmed. The files were then forwarded to the weapons authority of the Rostock district in order to pursue the suspicion of operating a shooting range without permission.

The weapons authority did not remain idle and began to determine for over a year. Nevertheless, she hired the procedure at the end of 2022 because the operator had not applied for a permission to shoot war weapons ammunition. The responsibility was not only attributed to the operator, but also accepted the police officers themselves.

political reactions and further developments

In the political landscape, the incident causes plenty of excitement. The Green politician Constanze Oehlrich expressed sharp criticism of the cooperation between the state police and the shooting range. The case could also become an issue in the upcoming investigation committee of the state parliament on right -wing extremism. This committee is intended to clarify the possible errors of the authorities in dealing with right-wing extremist structures, including the “Nordkreuz” network.

It is not unreasonable to assume that the future of this case will still raise many questions. And it remains to be seen how the investigation into the personal suitability and reliability of Frank T. will develop for gun ownership that are currently still in the room.

What remains is the legitimate question of the integrity of the security authorities and their cooperation with institutions that should by no means be the focus of legal weapon handling.
