Rostock construction site: Satower Straße shortly before full closure!
Something is happening in Rostock! Construction work on the Satower Straße/Rennbahnallee traffic junction has been progressing according to plan since August 2024 and is ensuring lively activity in the region. According to [Ostsee-Zeitung]. The civil engineering department, Nordwasser and the Rostock municipal utilities are working hand in hand to renew pipes in the intersection area and Rennbahnallee up to Damerower Weg. The current focus is on asphalt paving, joint and shaft work as well as paving work in the junction area.
In order to increase cyclist-friendliness, the installation of bicycle support bars and bicycle boxes is also planned. The tree planting is scheduled to take place this fall in order to sustainably beautify the cityscape.
Important diversions and closures
The entrance to the sports fields on Damerower Weg will remain completely closed until the end of November, while pedestrian traffic will continue to be secured. Detours via Neue Row and a partial closure of Satower Straße are signposted. Nordwasser's work has already been successfully completed on Rennbahnallee, meaning that traffic will not be significantly disrupted here.
The construction site on Satower Straße is considered lengthy and has been active in several sections since July 2020. The first construction phase began in 2020, followed by a second construction phase in 2022. The third construction phase has been ongoing since August 2024 and is expected to lead to the complete expansion of Satower Straße to Mensa/Albert-Einstein-Straße.
Future outlook and further measures
Looking into the future, RSAG plans to completely renew the track systems from 2025 in order to extend the service life of the tracks. This is particularly important because some sections are used by up to five lines as well as cars, buses and heavy goods vehicles. During the work there will be temporary slowdowns as work cannot be carried out on all track sections at the same time. An interactive map on the RSAG website shows future construction measures and offers a clear representation of the current situation.
A particularly challenging project still lies ahead: the replacement of the bridge at the zoo, which is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. During this time there will be a full closure of the road and tram tracks, with diversions signposted. Here too, RSAG will provide information about any changes to tram routing and bus routes in order to keep citizens as informed as possible.
The construction site on Satower Straße offers many challenges, but also opportunities to improve the infrastructure in Rostock. We wish everyone involved a good hand and patience so that the transport projects can be brought to plan and to a successful conclusion.
