Big win for Rostock's handball players: 43:30 against Ostsee Neustadt!
The boys from HC Empor Rostock set off real fireworks today in the handball second division game against HSG Ostsee Neustadt/Grömitz. With an impressive score of 43:30 (24:15), the team won the duel and was able to extend their winning streak to two wins in a row. According to nordkurier.de, Rostock can now look forward to 8:8 points and is in eighth place in the table.
Coach Michael Jacobsen celebrated this victory in full. He emphasized that the team's “second line” was able to gain valuable match practice and praised the high attack effectiveness of 80 percent in the first half. Elias Gansau was particularly outstanding, not only scoring the first four goals for Rostock, but also becoming the game's top scorer with a total of 12 goals.
Positioning and defensive play
The Rostock defense hardly allowed the opponent to get a move from the backcourt and presented itself as a stubborn hurdle. Goalkeeper Leon Mehler demonstrated his skills with several saves, but was only 50 percent satisfied with the performance of his front men. In addition to Mehler, the HC Empor line-up also included Wetzel, Costa Dias, Schütze, Siegler, Gansau, Funke, Dennis Mehler, Finn Scheminski, Pratschner, Pechstein, Uhl, Reichardt, Richter and Mamporia.
A downer was the eye injury suffered by Matheus Costa Dias, who had to leave the field after 7:09 minutes. Nevertheless, the mood in the team was great, and the successes seemed to strengthen the Rostock team's self-confidence.
Returnees and future perspectives
Another bright spot are the returnees from HC Empor, including Elias Gansau, who is coming back from EHV Aue in the summer of 2024. Gansau, 24 years old and native of Greifswald, signed a non-league two-year contract. He is full of energy and not only wants to keep the league with Empor, but also seriously fight for promotion. He had previously gained a lot of experience, including at SC DHfK Leipzig, where he scored his first Bundesliga goal against THW Kiel. His goal is to continue the successful relationships with teammates like Dennis and Leon Mehler, with whom he played in his youth. According to handballpapst.de, Gansau was EHV Aue's most successful goalscorer last season.
Overall, the HC Empor Rostock team has a lot planned and shows that something is on the way. The combination of fresh talent and experience will certainly benefit the team. It will be interesting to see how things develop in the near future and whether the Rostock team can maintain their place in the middle of the table.
