Rostock district: Güstrow workshops go to Diakonie Güstrow!

The focus is currently on the Güstrow workshops as the district council committees in the Rostock district are discussing the transfer of their shares to Diakonie Güstrow e.V. This measure aims to make social offerings in the district more efficient given the tense financial situation. The Güstrow workshops are not a blank slate. They were founded on January 1, 1993 and merged with rehabilitation workshops in the former Güstrow and Teterow districts. Today the gGmbH employs up to 900 people in the Rostock district and offers them a wide range of services in 24 different locations. The offerings include workshops, day groups, dormitories, outpatient care and an integrative daycare center. A seamless transition

Diakonie Güstrow has clearly communicated that this transfer will not change anything for the workshop employees. This gives employees and carers a reason to rest as they will continue to receive the usual offers and support.

But why this step? Given the current financial challenges, it has become increasingly important for municipalities to design their social offerings sustainably. By transferring the Güstrow workshops, Diakonie is trying to find a solution that meets the needs of everyone involved. This project is part of a broader strategy to promote the participation and inclusion of people with disabilities, which has become more important in Germany since the Federal Participation Act was passed in 2018. This includes music and dance therapy, creative design, the promotion of basic skills and sporting activities.
