Landscape Gardener Cup North 2025: Trainees design dream gardens in the harbor!

On June 21, 2025, the eagerly awaited Landscape Gardener Cup North started in Rostock's city harbor. This competition, which takes place annually, is aimed at the best horticultural trainees and has established itself as a platform to attract fresh talent to the industry. This year, participants will bring 150 tons of sand, soil, wood, plants and stones to create an inspiring garden for children on an area of 4x4 meters. NDR reports that the garden will contain an exciting barefoot path, a jumping game, water pools and delicious sweet fruits and vegetables.

The trainees' skills are put to the test as they have to complete various tasks. These include identifying native plants, accurately applying surveying techniques and a game of skill with a small excavator that involves popping balloons. These challenges are not only educational, but also an exciting opportunity to demonstrate participants' practical skills.

A competition with tradition

The Landscape Gardener Cup North is part of a larger series of competitions that take place in various regions of Germany. There was already an event in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in May, and similar competitions were also held in Berlin, Hesse and Thuringia. As on the association's website landscape gardener can be read, the Rostock competition follows a series of exciting events spread across Germany.

Currently, around 130 trainees in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are among the promising talents in horticulture. However, main juror Christian Jahnke noted that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find apprentices for the industry in rural areas. The competition is therefore not only a showcase for creative garden ideas, but also an approach to promote interest in apprenticeships.

Containers and competition

The competition between the trainees lasts until Saturday afternoon. After the gardens are dismantled, only the best garden remains in the Rostock city harbor until Sunday evening. This suggests that not only a beautiful garden is being created here, but also a lively community of young people who approach the task with passion and creativity.

Overall, the Landscape Gardener Cup North impressively shows how much potential there is in the industry and how important it is to promote young talent. Anyone who has the opportunity should not miss the opportunity to marvel at these extraordinary creations and experience the next steps in the art of horticulture up close!
