NATO exercise Quadriga 2025: Big scenario starts off Rostock!
Around 8,000 German soldiers are currently the focus of the NATO exercise series “Quadriga 2025”. This major exercise, which has been in full swing for days, focuses on the maritime dimension and examines how the Bundeswehr can act efficiently in an emergency. In the “Role2Sea” sub-exercise, a demanding scenario is simulated that involves a mass casualty at sea. NDR reports that the marines have to cooperate closely with the Rostock clinics.
What is particularly exciting is the interaction between the soldiers and the local hospitals, which will be tested on Sunday. During this exercise, a total of 30 injured people are treated and are cared for on the supply ship “Frankfurt am Main”. This floating hospital is fully equipped and offers two operating rooms and a ward.
Logistical challenges
How Defense Network adds, the aim of the exercise is clear: the operational readiness of the Bundeswehr must be increased in order to provide deterrence for the entire state. The Navy bears primary responsibility for the exercise, which has developed into a crucial part of the security policy turnaround. In the coming days, soldiers will also practice road and air convoys to further optimize logistics.
Part of the scenario calls for two seriously injured soldiers to be flown to the Südstadt and University Clinic in Rostock. This situation requires medical personnel to first stabilize the injured in the floating hospital before transporting them by helicopter. This is where the cohesion and coordination between the military and civilian supply centers is put to the test.
Strategic importance and international cooperation
The NATO exercise “Quadriga 2025” not only covers the sea, but also shows how important it is to secure the Suwalki Gap. This border between Poland and Lithuania has great strategic importance for NATO, especially considering that it separates Russia from Belarus. In an emergency, the corridor could quickly become a target for military operations. Xpert Digital reports on the diverse scenarios that target these security challenges.
The variety of sub-exercises in “Quadriga 2025” speaks for comprehensive preparation for all aspects of defense. These include, among other things, transport by road, rail and sea, logistical support for the armed forces and the provision of protection against multidimensional threats. The aim is to ensure a break-free rescue chain under challenging conditions.
On Thursday, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) is expected on board the frigate “Bayern”, which shows that this exercise is of great importance not only for the military, but also for politics. The exercises in Rostock send a clear signal of the determination of Germany and its allies to strengthen the defense capability of the NATO area and are supported by soldiers from the Navy, Army and Air Force.
