New cycle path between Heiligenhagen and Anna Luisenhof started!
There's something happening for cycling lovers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania! The construction of a new cycle path between Heiligenhagen and Anna Luisenhof in the Rostock district began today, June 16, 2025. A 1.6 kilometer long cycle path is planned, which will not only offer cyclists a safe connection, but also the opportunity to enjoy nature. [NDR].
The new paths mostly lead along State Road 10, where the excavators are already working to advance construction. The construction phase, which lasted several months, began with smaller preparation tricks that were already carried out last year. The building should not only promote cycling, but also set an example of the state's willingness to invest in expanding cycle paths. The estimated construction costs amount to around 625,000 euros, a sum provided by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Environmental protection and traffic safety
An important concern in this project is environmental protection. A total of around 100 new trees will be planted after completion to compensate for the impact on nature. There will also be ruderal herbaceous borders and succession areas around the cycle path, which will also benefit nature. [Strassen-MV](https://www.strassen-mv.de/de/presse/information/?id=211582&processor=processor.sa.press release) points out that part of Landesstraße 10 will be partially closed during construction work. A traffic light will be set up to regulate traffic.
The cycle path is scheduled to be completed in September 2025. Such projects are essential in the region to improve road safety for cyclists and to promote cycling as a sustainable form of mobility. This is in line with the state's goal of implementing more than 135 cycle path projects with a total length of 203 kilometers as planned by 2033 in order to significantly expand the cycle path infrastructure in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Radfahrland MV puts it in a nutshell: “Cycling should become safer and more attractive.”
67 road sections with a total length of 98 km are already planned for implementation over the next five years. This not only increases the attractiveness for local cyclists, but should also support tourism and promote cycling in the region.
Overall, the project shows that there is a good knack for promoting cycling infrastructure in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The path is still long, but with every new cycle path the region becomes a little more bike-friendly. Citizens can look forward to developments in the coming months, which will not only improve traffic flow, but also increase quality of life.
