Rostock Seawolves start the new BBL season excitingly against Trier!

The Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) has opened a new chapter, as the ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES are starting their fourth season in the top German league. Next Sunday, September 28th, 2025, the season opener will be against the VET-CONCEPT Gladiators Trier, who are returning from the BBL after ten years of absence. Kick-off in the SWT Arena is at 3:00 p.m. and the anticipation among the fans is already noticeable.

Both teams have already shown convincing performances in the BBL Cup: The Seawolves beat Phoenix Hagen 101:82, while the Gladiators defeated Trier Tübingen 87:67. The games between the two clubs promise a lot of exciting action and show that the form is right.

The old friend in the new team

A special aspect of the game will be the meeting with former Rostock player Jordan Roland, who now plays for Trier. Roland was part of the Rostock team that achieved promotion to the BBL in 2022 and repeated this success in 2025 with the Gladiators. In addition to him, Behnam Yakhchali, who played for Rostock in the 2020/2021 season, also strengthens the Trier team. Yakhchali made a name for himself in Trier and averaged 13.7 points per game last season.

Coach Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz acknowledges the challenges of this away trip. He describes the encounter as one of the most difficult of the entire season. In addition to the strong Trier team, which boasts players like Maik Zirbes and Eli Brooks, the Seawolves have to do without Oshane Drews. But the rest of the Rostock squad is ready to get off to a strong start to the season.

High audience numbers and exciting tradition

The fans of the Gladiators Trier are known for their passion. In the last ProA season they recorded an average of 4200 spectators per game. Only standing room tickets are available for the duel against Rostock, which underlines the great anticipation for the match. Historically, Rostock and Trier have played against each other seven times in the ProA, with the Seawolves winning five of these duels.

Fans can also look forward to the live broadcast of the game from 2:45 p.m. on the DYN streaming service. This is a great opportunity to support the team even if you can't be there.

This season, the basketball community is looking forward to the Seawolves and their performances because expectations are high. With a successful starting win, Rostock could make it clear that they are ready for the challenges in the BBL. The cards have been laid and the game could represent an exciting start to the 60th Bundesliga season!
