Serious injury in the Ostseestadion: boy hit by pyrotechnics!

A tragic incident overshadowed FC Hansa Rostock's third division game against TSV 1860 Munich in the Ostseestadion. A nine-year-old boy was seriously injured when pyrotechnics detonated during post-game choreography. FC Hansa Rostock is affected and expresses its sympathy for the boy and his family. Chairman of the board Ronald Maul said that the club is doing everything it can to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident and is supporting the police investigation, which has already initiated criminal proceedings. Lesseniel reports.

The incident occurred at a ceremony to mark the retirement of the old floodlight masts that had illuminated the stadium since 1970. Over 24,000 spectators were present to see the last light of the old masts and the evening ended with a spectacular choreography that was officially approved by the Hanseatic City of Rostock. This included pyrotechnic elements, which resulted in parts of the pyrotechnics flying into a VIP parking lot. A player's father's car was damaged. Nordkurier reports.

The boy's injuries

The nine-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious burns, but his injuries are not life-threatening. He reportedly suffered severe burns from rockets fired during the choreography. A police spokeswoman confirmed the severity of the injuries and ongoing investigations into other possible injuries. Rumors about the boy being transported to a special clinic in Lübeck have not yet been confirmed. Nordkurier adds.

The choreography, which lasted about five minutes, included a video with former Hansa goalkeeper Dieter Schneider and was intended to provide viewers with an unforgettable atmosphere. It is now the task of the investigators to clarify whether the height of the pyrotechnics and the fireworks exceeded the approved limits and whether unsafe practices may have been used.

The reactions and the consequences

The club's sympathy goes out particularly to the injured boy and his family and the club has already offered support. In addition to the emotional consequences, this incident also raises serious questions about security at the stadium. There have been efforts in the past to improve security and order at football matches, such as the “Bavarian Stadium Alliances” pilot project, which aims to build trust between the police, security authorities and football clubs. It remains to be seen whether such concepts can also be applied to the situation in Rostock and prevent possible future incidents. The Bavarian state government reports on this.

In this context, FC Hansa Rostock has nevertheless announced that the investigation is being continuously monitored and those responsible are doing everything in their power to prevent similar incidents in the future. The fans and the entire football community are excited about further developments and hope for the little boy's speedy well-being.
