The Light Week 2025 in Rostock ended with an impressive conclusion on Saturday, November 8th. Under the motto “Cosmic Light,” the city shone for six days with colorful light installations that attracted numerous visitors. The illuminated city center stretched from the Kröpeliner Tor via the monastery garden and the university square to the Neuer Markt and Steintor.
A highlight of the week was without a doubt the 20-minute LED and fire show, which thrilled the crowd on the weekend night. A spectacular laser projection by Udo Lindenberg was also presented on the main university building. These impressive artistic performances were accompanied by musician and multimedia laser fire artist Jürgen Matkowitz, who also performed with the band Renft, among others.
Impressive light installations
The light installations featured planets, northern lights, starscapes and galaxies and created a magical atmosphere throughout the city center. Visitors from near and far were carried away by the flashing lights and the special atmosphere. Not only the lights, but also Udo Lindenberg's art could not be missed this year. The major retrospective “Udo Lindenberg – Painting, Music & Great Show” has been running at the Kunsthalle Rostock since June 2023. This exhibition shows a variety of previously unknown works of art and photographs from his archive and addresses the creation of his impressive show. Visitors can immerse themselves in the artist's multifaceted world and discover excerpts from his musical career.
The Light Week impressively demonstrated that Rostock is a place of creativity and cultural exchange. The successful combination of light art and music not only thrilled the citizens, but also attracted numerous tourists who were able to experience an unforgettable evening in this special atmosphere.
