Traffic chaos in the northeast: traffic jams and construction sites at the start of the holidays!

The traffic situation around Rostock is tense on June 29, 2025, because with the start of the summer holidays in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, increased travel volumes are expected in the coming days. Loud Baltic Sea newspaper The region experiences a lot of traffic jams, especially on the main traffic axes such as the A19 and A20 motorways and the B103, B105 and B110 federal highways.

In the city center of Rostock, drivers currently have to pay attention to Neubrandenburger Straße. This will be renovated in three sections from 2025, with work in the southern section, from the railway crossing to the Molkerei/Röthsoll residential area, possibly starting in February. Drivers should prepare for some massive restrictions lasting around nine months. The connection route will also be affected by the district heating supply from the municipal utility, as months of closures will be necessary here from February.

Current traffic jams and closures

The traffic information shows that there is slow traffic on the B105 between Rostock-Überseehafen and the Warnow Tunnel. Drivers have to expect a time loss of around two minutes here. In addition, a small traffic jam with a length of 0.5 km has also been reported between the E55 and Simon-van-Utrecht-Straße, which causes a loss of time of five minutes. The detailed traffic jam information comes from the website Traffic jam card. Other current traffic jams and closures are also listed there:

  • Stau auf E55 zwischen Am Warnowkai und Peez – Zeitverlust 3 Minuten
  • Stau stockender Verkehr B105 zwischen Rostock-Überseehafen und Warnowtunnel – Zeitverlust 2 Minuten
  • Dichter Verkehr B105 zwischen Stadtautobahn und Rostock-Überseehafen – Zeitverlust 1 Minute

The Vorpommern Bridge (L22) is also to be replaced by a new one, which will be completed in around 15 years. The construction sites are causing traffic to continue to build up in these areas, which further complicates the situation.

Looking ahead to the coming days

Traffic levels will also be further impacted by the upcoming weekend as many summer holidaymakers and day trippers will be on the roads. The ADAC expects that the highways to the North and Baltic Seas will be particularly busy. Although there could be delays, the ADAC is not expecting chaotic conditions at the start of the season. The traffic situation in Rostock could also remain challenging due to the construction sites in the area, as reported by ADAC suggest.

To ensure that rescue workers reach their destination quickly in an emergency, the police are appealing to all road users to form an emergency lane when traffic is at a standstill. Failure to comply with this regulation can be punished with fines of up to 320 euros.
